From the Hartwood Motel and Lamplighter

Go east (right turn) on Gilbert until Main St.
Then north (left turn) until you come to a stop sign.

About 11 blocks Until you come to Grand Ave.

Then bend North (about 45 degree angle).

Go North on Grand which will turn into County Road t-64 also known as Shadow Ave in the country.

Approximately 4 miles on t-64 you will come to a stop sign

Left (west) turn onto b-33

Go 1/4 mile until right turn (north) on Rustic

Proceed aprox.2.5 miles until Right (east) turn onto 130th St.

Go 1/4 mile until left turn (north) onto Shadow ave. go approximately 3/4 of a mile

Exline Farm is on a long lane west side of the road.

Address is 1221 Shadow Ave.

From Sherman House B&B

Same as above, except the first left turn is eliminated. Sherman House is on Main Street

There are 2 options for guests arriving from Minneapolis Airport. Option # 1 involves country roads. Option # 2 uses mainly an interstate/highway. Both are the same mileage and take about the same amount of time, i.e., 2.5 hours. Option # 1 is our favorite as it passes through several small, typically Midwest towns and countryside, however, it should be taken during the daylight. Take option # 2 if you are directionally challenged.

1) Scenic Route

From MSP Airport, take 5 East to 55 South/East. Continue this to Interstate 52 South. Keep on 52S (for approx. 20 miles) to Hwy 56 South (56S). Take 56S (approx. 40 miles) through towns of Kenyon and West Concord, to Hwy 14. Hwy 56S joins 14 at this point. Turn left at this intersection. Take 56S / 14E toward Dodge Center. There is a yummy Dairy Queen right before Dodge Center. Shortly thereafter, get back onto 56S; and in approx. 25 miles cross over Interstate 90. This is where it starts getting challenging.

Still on 56S, pass through town of Rose Creek, MN and turn right onto a small road called "640 Ave." Continue (South) on 640 Ave. toward Stacyville, Iowa. Pass through Stacyville and continue South (640 Avenue becomes Monument Avenue and/or T40 Mitchell Blacktop). Go approximately 4 miles on that same road. You will intersect with Hwy 218 South. Turn left onto 218S. Once outside of Osage, continue following signs for Hwy 218S (after approximately 3-4 miles outside of Osage the signs for 218S will direct you to turn right but you’ll still be on 218S).

To Exline Farm

After turning right, continue on Hwy 218S for approximately 4 miles. You will see a small green sign on your right for Orchard, Iowa. Turn left onto a small road labeled 320th. Take 320^th for approximately 3 miles to Shadow Avenue. Turn right onto Shadow Avenue, a gravel road. You will first encounter Shadow Avenue on your left (with no option to turn right). Do not take this. Continue on 320^th for approximately ¼ of a mile. You will encounter another Shadow Avenue on your right only. Turn right onto Shadow Avenue. Go approximately 3.25 miles South on Shadow Avenue. A large white, 3 storey farmhouse with a reddish-brown roof will appear on your right, set ½ mile from the road. This is the Exline Farm. Turn right into the driveway! Our phone number is (641) 228-5022 although your cell phones may not work. Get into the spirit and ask the neighbors for Steve Exline’s farm instead!

To Hotels

Continue on 218S for 10 miles till you reach Charles City, Iowa. Your Hotels should be on the right hand side of the road before you reach the intersection with Main Street. Lamplighter Motel is first, then shortly thereafter, the Heartwood Motel, then shortly thereafter, the Sherman House B & B.

2) Highway Route

From MSP Airport, take 5E to 35W. Take Interstate 35W South toward Iowa. Interstate 35W becomes Interstate 35S. Take Interstate 35S to exit for Interstate 90E. Take 90E to Austin, MN. There may be some construction but it should not be a long detour and the signs are clear. Take Interstate 90E to Hwy 218S. Take Hwy 218S through the towns of Lyle, MN, St. Ansgar, and Osage IA (this will require a few turns but the signs are very clear). Once outside of Osage, continue following signs for Hwy 218S (after approximately 3-4 miles outside of Osage the signs for 218S will direct you to turn right but you’ll still be on 218S).

To Exline Farm
